March 20, 2012 - May 1, 2012 Lafayette, Colorado, USA
"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has begun to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.”
The 2012 Lafayette César Chávez Celebration consists of over 20 Community Activities that takes place over a 40 day period, from March 20th, 2012 to May 1st, 2012. This year marks the 10th annual Celebration, which honors the legacy of Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and the Farmworkers Movement! It is the longest running celebration of its kind in Colorado, perhaps the country!
Each activity is designed to wducate, not entertain, and are organized by local agencies, clubs, organizations or individuals. No one group or individual is responsible for organizing the whole celebration. This unique arrangement allows for great autonomy, creativity, and maximum community involvement.
A LCCC Committee, made up of one or more representatives from each organizing group, agrees upon a master calendar and raises funds which are used for meeting supplies, a Coordinator, marketing and Activity funds which are distributed to each organizing group on a matching fund basis.
