"Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed.

You cannot un-educate the person who has begun to read.
You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride.
You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.”
César Chávez

The 2011 Lafayette César Chávez Celebration consists of a series of community events that take place over a 6-week period, from March 15, 2011 - May 1, 2011.  It is the longest celebration of its kind in Colorado.

Each event was organized by
local agencies, clubs, organizations or individuals. No one group or individual was responsible for organizing the whole celebration. This unique arrangement allows for great autonomy, creativity, and maximum community involvement.

An Organizing Council, made up of one or more representatives from each organizing group, agreed upon a master calendar and raised funds which were used primarily for publicity. Any leftover funds were distributed to each group on a matching fund basis.
